Terms of
Service

These terms govern your use of the Strange Skies website, mobile app, public archive and reporting tools.

Last updated 24 August 2026

1. Agreement

By accessing or using Strange Skies, you agree to these terms and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not use the service. The service is intended for people aged 18 or over.

2. What Strange Skies is

Strange Skies is a platform for recording and discussing reports of unexplained aerial observations. A report, confidence score, automated analysis or unresolved classification is not proof of an extraordinary or extraterrestrial cause.

Strange Skies is not an emergency, aviation-safety, law-enforcement or scientific-certification service. If an event presents an immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency or aviation authority.

3. Accounts

  • Provide accurate account information and keep your credentials secure.
  • Do not share, sell or transfer access to an account.
  • Tell us promptly if you believe an account has been compromised.
  • You are responsible for activity carried out through your account unless caused by our failure to use reasonable care.

We may restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect users, evidence, infrastructure or the public archive.

4. Reports and evidence

Only submit observations you genuinely believe to be accurate. Clearly distinguish what you personally witnessed from assumptions or information received from someone else.

You retain ownership of content you submit. You grant Strange Skies a worldwide, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to host, store, reproduce, adapt for technical presentation, analyse and publicly display that content for operating, moderating and promoting the service. This licence lasts while the content remains on the service and for reasonable backup, legal and archival periods.

You confirm that you have the right to submit the content and that it does not unlawfully infringe privacy, confidentiality, copyright or other rights.

5. Prohibited use

You must not:

  • Submit hoaxes, fabricated evidence, impersonations or knowingly misleading information.
  • Identify, harass, threaten, dox or target another person.
  • Upload unlawful, hateful, sexually exploitative, graphically violent or malicious material.
  • Expose exact private addresses, faces, vehicle registrations or other personal data without a lawful basis.
  • Attempt to access another account, bypass security, overload the service or introduce malware.
  • Scrape or reuse the archive in a way that violates law, privacy, these terms or reasonable technical limits.
  • Present automated analysis as a verified identification or professional finding.

See the Community Guidelines for practical reporting standards.

6. Moderation

We may review, label, limit, correct metadata, anonymise or remove content where we reasonably believe it breaches these terms, creates a safety or privacy risk, is unlawful, or undermines the integrity of the archive. We may preserve information where reasonably required for security, evidence or legal compliance.

We do not promise to review every report and are not responsible for validating every user statement.

7. Automated and third-party information

Weather, map, astronomical and automated analysis may come from third-party services or computational models. These outputs may be incomplete, delayed or incorrect. They are provided for context and should not be relied upon for safety-critical, legal, navigational or scientific decisions.

8. Availability and changes

We may change, suspend or withdraw features and may impose reasonable limits to maintain security and reliability. We do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or permanent preservation of every case file.

9. Liability

Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded. To the extent permitted by law, Strange Skies is not liable for indirect or consequential loss, loss of data, reputational harm, or decisions made in reliance on user reports or automated analysis. Consumer rights that apply to you remain unaffected.

10. Ending use

You may stop using the service at any time and may request account deletion through our deletion page. We may terminate or restrict access for serious or repeated breaches, security risks, or legal requirements.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales, subject to any mandatory consumer protections and jurisdiction rights that apply where you live.

12. Contact and changes

Questions can be sent to info@strangeskies.app. We may update these terms as the service develops. Material changes will be communicated by an appropriate method, and continued use after they take effect constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.

These are operational draft terms and should receive professional legal review before public launch.
